When i first heard the Jays had traded for Yunel Escobar i thought 'great, we're finally landing a shortstop for the long-term despite losing A-Gon'. However, after reading into it, i'm not so sure i like this trade.
First of all, Alex Gonzalez is having a career year and leads the majors at shortstop for all sorts of offensive production (Kinda makes you laugh at the Red Sox who let him go for former Jay Marco Scutaro). While A-Gon is ripping up the league, Yunel is struggling offensively and has been slated for his attitude.
Second, we're having to give up Tim Collins who could've been our future closer. And who do we get in return? Jo-Jo Reyes. Pish poor.
Now GM Alex Anthopolous might retort that both these guys have shown great production in the past, especially Escobar who batted .299 last year, but essentially we're dealing two guys who are showing great form for two guys who we're gambling to return to old habits.
